Shahjahan Biswas : “Food security has been achieved, now we want safe food” If there is safe food, health is good and the future is bright” Public dialogue for ensuring safe food was held in Manikganj with various slogans like this on Saturday.
A private organization Barsik organized this public dialogue for safe food, safe health and safe future in the auditorium of Manikganj District Shilpakala Academy from morning to noon.
In this dialogue and exchange meeting, President of the District Agriculture Development Committee, Karam Ali Master, presided over and Bimal Chandra Roy, the Annual Regional Coordinator, gave a welcome speech.
Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj Muhammad Abdul Latif spoke as the chief guest.
District Additional Animal Resources Officer Dr. Abdur Razzak, Deputy Director of District Environment Department Md. Saiful Islam, Assistant Director of Consumer Rights Protection Asaduzzaman Rumel, District Safe Food Officer Noore Alam Sohag, President of District Farmers Association Vir Muktijoddha Sankar Prasad Bhowmik spoke as special guests. Krishak League President Mizanur Rahman Nazrul, President of the Farmers’ Alliance Veer Muktijodha Comrade Shamsul Alam, Prominent environmental organizer Advocate Deepak Kumar Ghosh, Prof. Paritosh Acharya, Chairman of the National Women’s Association Mrs. Lakshmi Chatterjee, District Cab President Samshunnabi Tulip, Teacher Leader Comrade Mujibur Rahman Master, Farmer Researcher Masud Biswas, Youth Leader Mizanur Rahman Heart etc.
The speakers said that even though the country is now self-sufficient in food, there is no guarantee of safe food. In the economy of private ownership there is nothing good but adulteration around for the sake of more profit. In fact, to get safe food free from adulteration, folk methods and use of bioenergy in agriculture should be increased. Use of local methods against fertilizers and pesticides should be increased.
