AL-backed candidates win mayoral races in Rajshahi, Sylhe

Online Desk: The ruling Awami League-backed candidates AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury were elected mayors of Rajshahi and Sylhet respectively, in the city corporation polls held on Wednesday (June 21).
According to the unofficial results, Khairuzzaman Liton secured 1,60,290 votes, and his closest opponent Islami Andolon’s Murshid Alam, bagged 13,483 votes in the Rajshahi City Corporation polls.
In Sylhet City Corporation, Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury bagged 1,19,991 Votes to defeat Jatiya Party’s Md Nazrul Islam, who got 50,862 votes.
Returning officer Md Delwar Hossain and Foysal Quader of the two city polls confirmed the results.
Electronic Voting Machines were used in all centres of the RCC and SCC polls.
