Our Correspondent, Manikganj:Dense fog halts ferry service on 2 river routes at Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-kajirhat .
Authorities have suspended ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes as the dense fog blanketed the river beds of the Padma and the Jamuna rivers.
Ferry services on the two river routes were suspended to avoid accidents as the ferry’s marking lights became dim in the thick fog.
Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed this morning after 10 and a half hours of disruption due to dense fog.
Meanwhile, the ferry services on Aricha-Kazirhat route also resumed after 11 and half hours of disruption due to the same cause.
In this time four ferries on Paturia-Daulatdia and two on Aricha-Kazirhat routes were stranded in the middle of the Jamuan and Padma river.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha Ghat DGM Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz confirmed the resumption of ferry services on the routes around 9:10am on Sunday (January 8).
Earlier, authorities suspended ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes as the dense fog blanketed the river beds of the Padma and the Jamuna rivers.
The ferry movement on Paturia-Daulatdia was suspended from 10:30 pm on Saturday (January 7) and on the Aricha-Kazirhat route from 9:25 pm for the invisibility of both the river routes, said Khaled Newaz.
