Similarly, ferries plying on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were anchored at both the ghats. As the ferry was closed for a long time, hundreds of vehicles including passenger buses, cargo trucks and other vehicles headed to the capital were stuck waiting for the ferry at Daulatdia Ghat. Passengers and transport workers have to suffer as they get stuck in the ghats amid winter and fog.
BIWTC’s Aricha Regional office DGM Shah Muhammad Khalid Nawaz confirmed the fact of the incident and said, “There is no necessary system to keep the ferry service running in dense fog.” Therefore, due to fog, the ferry service is closed for 5/6 hours on these two waterways. At present, 13 small and big ferries are operating on the Paturia-Daulatdia route and 5 on the Aricha-Kazirhat route. With these ferries, the cars stuck at the ghat are being crossed quickly, he said.
